Friends, I want to invite you to read your Bible from Genesis to Revelation in 2018.
What is the Bible? It is an ancient piece of literature. It is a collection of books from the Judeo-Christian religious tradition. It is a series of stories that describe the history of the Hebrew people and the rise and fall of the nation of Israel under the Davidic monarchy. It tells the story of Jesus whose life and death have inspired unparalleled devotion for 2000 years.
It is all these things. But most importantly, it is the Word of God. The Hebrew Bible is considered sacred by Jewish people. Together the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) and the New Testament are considered sacred by Christians. As a sacred text, we Christians consider the Bible to be God’s revelation of Himself. It provides us with moral and ethical guidance. We believe that it has the power, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to transform lives.
As such it is in our best interest as believers, it is imperative, that we expose ourselves to Scripture with great regularity. Reading the Bible daily and systematically, is as important to our transformation into Christlikeness as is the air we breathe for our physical lives.
With these truths in mind, let me invite you to join me in reading t
he Bible through using the One Year Bible. This approach has a reading from the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, a Psalm, and a Proverb every day. There are many ways to get involved:
1. Smartphone App. Download the YouVersion Bible app from your app store and friend Ocoee Oaks United Methodist Church. Then join the One Year Bible group that will begin on January 1, 2018. One advantage of this approach is that you will have built in support of a community of fellow readers.
2. Email. You can have the passages from the One Year Bible emailed to you every evening so that you can read them first thing the next morning by signing up for email delivery by clicking here.
3. RSS Feed. If you use an RSS feeder, you can get the link by clicking here. Right click on “Daily One Year® Reading Plan Feed” and copy the link to paste into your feeder.
4. Download and Print. You can download and print a PDF by clicking here. Click the underlined text in the first line. If you prefer a large print version, click on the underlined text in the last line.
